Add a machine
How to add a machine on the Machines page: choosing the product, naming the machine, and for es-python picking its distribution, architecture and Python version.
The add-machine toolbar
You add a machine from the toolbar at the top of the Machines page. Fill in the fields from left to right and click Add machine; the new machine appears at the top of the list with the status created.
Which fields you see depends on the product you pick. es-python asks for Name, Distro, Arch and Python; es-chromium asks only for a Name.
The toolbar is not shown at all if your account has no product enabled. See Products.
Product
The Product dropdown picks which EyalSec product this machine will run. It lists only the products enabled on your account, and the fields after it change to match your choice.
If your account has a single product, there is nothing to choose and the dropdown is not shown. If a product you expected is missing, it is not enabled for your account; email sales@eyalsec.com to add it.
Name
The Name is how the machine is labelled everywhere in the dashboard, including on every event it reports. Use anything from 1 to 128 characters that helps you recognize it, for example prod-web-1 or my-laptop.
You can rename a machine at any time; its events stay attributed to it. Pressing Enter in the box is the same as clicking Add machine.
Distro
Distro (es-python only) is the Linux distribution of the host you will install on. EyalSec publishes a runtime matched to each distribution, so pick the one the host actually runs.
The list offers:
| Distro | Notes |
|---|---|
| Ubuntu 24.04 LTS | the first entry, selected by default |
| Ubuntu 22.04 LTS | |
| Ubuntu 20.04 LTS | |
| Debian 13 (trixie) | |
| Debian 12 (bookworm) | |
| Debian 11 (bullseye) | |
| RHEL / Rocky / Alma 9 | covers the RHEL 9 family |
| Amazon Linux 2023 | |
| Fedora (latest) | follows the current Fedora release |
| Arch Linux (rolling) |
If your host runs a close relative of one of these (a derivative that declares the same family), pick that family. The installer checks the host before it installs and stops with a clear message if the build cannot run there.
Arch
Arch (es-python only) is the host's processor architecture: x86_64 for most servers, desktops and laptops, or aarch64 for 64-bit ARM machines such as AWS Graviton instances or a Raspberry Pi running a 64-bit OS. Every distro in the list is offered for both.
Run uname -m on the host if you are not sure: it prints x86_64 or aarch64 (some systems print amd64 or arm64, which mean the same things).
Python
Python (es-python only) is the Python version the machine will run, shown as Python 3.13, Python 3.12 and so on. Versions 3.9 to 3.14 are supported, and the list shows only the versions actually published for the distro and arch you picked, so it can change when you change either.
The default is Python 3.13. If 3.13 is not available for the chosen target, the newest available version is selected instead. When you switch distro or arch, your choice is kept if the new target has it too.
Pick the version your code is written for. You can install several versions on one host by adding one machine per version; each gets its own command name (see Where it installs). The chosen version is shown on the row as the Python badge.
Add machine
Clicking Add machine creates the machine. The new row appears with status created and an Install button; click it when you are ready for the install command (see Install es-python or Install es-chromium).
Machine limits
How many machines you can add is set by your plan, and the limit counts each product separately: es-chromium machines never use up es-python slots, and the other way round. The count line on the Machines page shows how many you have used.
When a product is at its limit, Add machine is refused with:
Machine limit reached (5). Contact sales@eyalsec.com to upgrade your plan.
An account that has no plan yet cannot add machines at all, and sees "Your account has no active plan yet, so it cannot add machines. Book a live demo or email sales@eyalsec.com to get set up." See Plans and No plan yet.
Deleting a machine frees its slot. Reinstalling one does not use a new slot.
Other messages
A few other refusals can appear in a pop-up when you click Add machine. Each names the problem:
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Machine name cannot be empty | type a name |
| Distro and Arch must be selected | wait for the lists to load, or reload the page |
| python_version 3.X is not available for ... | pick another version; the list was out of date |
| this view is not enabled on your account; ask an administrator to enable it | the product was switched off for your account; contact sales@eyalsec.com |
